"Fearless, feisty and resolute, the 'Rough Aunties' are a remarkable group of women unwavering in their stand to protect and care for the abused, neglected and forgotten children of Durban, South Africa. This newest documentary by internationally acclaimed director Kim Longinotto (Sisters in Law, Divorce Iranian Style) follows the outspoken, multiracial cadre of Thuli, Mildred, Sdudla, Eureka and Jackie, as they wage a daily battle against systemic apathy, corruption and greed to help the most vulnerable and disenfranchised of their communities. Neither politics, nor social or racial divisions stand a chance against the united force of the women. Once again Longinotto has managed to bring us an intimate portrait of change from Africa, this time from the new post-apartheid South Africa, a nation being transformed with hope and energy into a new democracy."
Be More Volunteer Organization:
Be More is a British and Dutch charity that promotes engagement in international development issues and supports small development organizations in Africa. We support our partners by providing volunteers, by involving people in the organization and by providing financial support in a way that is both beneficial and sustainable. We believe that each of us has the ability to affect change and that we should help one another, when and where necessary. Therefore, we offer anyone the chance to volunteer at one of our partner organizations and to make a personal and lasting difference in the lives of others.
Currently, we work with over 20 small organizations in Uganda and South Africa. Each year, hundreds of volunteers join their programs through Be More to make a real difference.
Be More is registered with the Charity Commission of England and Wales.
Cystic Fibrosis Canada:
For our family Cystic Fibrosis hits close to home, my husbands neice was diagnosed with CF.
(CF) is the most common, fatal genetic disease affecting Canadian children and young adults. There is no cure for cystic fibrosis. CF is a multi-organ disease, primarily affecting the lungs and digestive system. A build-up of thick mucus in the lungs causes severe breathing problems. It may be difficult to clear bacteria from the lungs, leading to cycles of infection and inflammation, which damage the delicate lung tissues.
Thick mucus also blocks the ducts of the pancreas, preventing enzymes from reaching the intestines to digest food. People with CF must consume a large amount of artificial enzymes (average 20 pills a day) with every meal and snack, to help digest and absorb adequate nutrition from food.
Cystic fibrosis is a very complex disease, but you will find plenty of information on this site to help answer your questions.
