HEALTHY HOT LUNCH PROGRAM
My Healthy Hot Lunch Program is optional, please let me know if you would like to enrol your child at time of registration.
It consists of 1 lunch and 2 snacks. I usually base most meals on what my own family and children like to eat and ask all the children enrolled what they like. It's very helpful if you send along a list of foods your children enjoy so I can incorporate them into our monthly menu. Most children will eventually eat anything when the choice is given to them repeatedly and when they see their friends eating the same.

It is important to vary the foods your child eats every day so that she/he stays interested. If you make sandwiches, alternate the type of breads used. Try English muffins, wheat bread, buns, pita or bagels. Then change the fillings, one day peanut butter and jelly, the next day meatloaf, tuna, egg salad, sliced chicken or turkey. Besides a sandwich, other lunch time favorites are leftovers, a piece of roast chicken/turkey/ham with rise, couscous, potatoes or hash browns, casserole, soup or stew.
Tips: To ensure that your child actually eats the lunch you pack, allow your child to help you choose some healthy lunch foods while out shopping or when you are making your shopping list.
Ask your child what types of fruits and veggies or other healthy items they would like and then prepare the food and pack the lunch together the night before so you are not rushing in the morning
Children tend to be more interested in a project if they have a hand in it and lunch is no exception. Since most children love to eat with their hands, they will be more likely to devour fruits and veggies and other foods they may otherwise pass up if you cut them into bit size pieces or strips.
