SICK CHILD POLICY
As per Licensing requirements, Parents/Guardians are asked to please keep their child's immunization records up to date.
Please advise the Caregiver immediately as you become aware of your child having a communicable disease or being in contact with someone that has a communicable disease, as regulated, the Caregiver must advise the other parents and the CRD HEALTH UNIT for Communicable Diseases Control, all names are kept confidential and only the child's age, diagnosed communicable disease and treatment would be given over the phone.
If your child is sick and can not participate in the daily programming we require Parents/Guardians to please keep them at home or seek alternative care. In general, if your child is too sick to go outside and play, go for a walk or run, then your child is too sick to attend Child Care.
If your child becomes ill during Daycare you will be phoned at work and asked to please pick up your child IMMEDIATELY. She/he will be kept away from the other children until you arrive. The Centre will allow a one-hour window for you to pick up your child before Caregivers begin calling emergency contacts from your authorized pick up list.
Please keep in mind that if your child is sick/contagious that there is a very high risk of passing it onto the other children in care and/or to the Caregiver. If the Caregiver gets sick and a substitute can not be found due too short notice, will result in closure of the Centre for one or possibly more days. This is why it is very important to have a few people as backups in case your child or myself are ill. We do practice Universal Cleaning Precautions however, it is normal for young children to become ill frequently during their first six years of childhood, as their bodies immunities are still developing.
If for any reason you attempt to drop off your child when they have one or more of the symptoms listed below, could result in being turned away at the door, again this is in every one's best interest.
The following symptoms indicate exclusion from the Centre is necessary (as per Licensing Regulations: a Doctors note may be required before admittance back into the Centre is allowed):
- Children with known or suspected communicable disease(s)
- Difficulty breathing and/or swallowing &/or Listlessness (an ambulance will be called if the Caregiver believes it to be life threatening)
- Severe itching of body and/or scalp
- Infected eye and/or skin and/or mouth
- Severe coughing and/or wheezing
- Pain: unexplained or undiagnosed
- Undiagnosed rash
- Fever of 100f / 38c or more
- An acute cold with fever, runny nose and/or eyes, coughing and/or sore throat.
- Vomiting, Nausea, Diarrhea and/or abdominal cramps. These symptoms indicate a bacterial or viral infection that is very easily passed from one child to another. The child should be kept home until any and all symptoms have passed, no less than 24 hours. Nausea, vomiting and pain may be an early sign of illness that require a physician's attention.
- The child does not seem themselves and does not/can not participate in the normal programming.
MEDICINE POLICY
Please give medication(s) to the Caregiver at time of child's drop off, so the medication(s) is not left in the child's bag/lunch box. All medications are kept in a locked box for safety. Please make sure to send along the pharmacy write up with your child's medication.
We as Licensed Caregivers can not administer any medication over its due date, and/or does not have the pharmacy logo and/or the child's information on the container.
If a child on a prescribed medication finishes the prescription and continues to have the same and/or different infection(s)s and/or symptoms, parents may be asked for another Doctors note for admittance back into the Centre. A new form will need to be filled out for any new prescriptions.
Caregivers can not administer patent medicines (over the counter drugs). These Medicines should be given before the child leaves home, unless it is accompanied by a Doctors note. If a child does require over the counter medication during the course of the day (IE: allergy medication), parents must then fill out a medical form. Caregivers are allowed to administer prescription medication from a pharmacist labeled bottle only. Parents are required to fill out medication forms for each new medication your child is to receive.
HEALTH AND SICKNESS GUIDELINES FOR PARENTS
Most Children's illnesses start with a fever. The fever usually indicates that the child is fighting some form of illness and at this time is contagious. All children must stay away from the Centre for 24 hours after the fever has abated and/or other acute symptoms have subsided.
If your child has been vomiting and/or had diarrhea overnight she/he should not attend the Centre for at least 24 hours after the symptoms have subsided. If your child is on antibiotics she/he continues to be contagious for 24 hours AFTER the first does of medicine and should not return to the Centre until this period of time has elapsed.
